Our Story
Purchasing our new home was one of the most exciting and emotional moments of our lives. We were absolutely elated knowing that we had finally found a place where we could truly settle in, enjoy life, and begin a new chapter together. From the moment we arrived, we knew this community offered something special—beautiful surroundings, welcoming neighbors, and a lifestyle that encourages happiness, activity, and connection.
This move didn’t just change our lives, it also changed the lives of our two beloved furbabies, Luna-Tuna and Fatboy Cairo. Watching them explore their new home, enjoy the sunshine, and relax in their new surroundings brought us so much joy. They quickly adjusted to their new environment, and it was clear they were just as happy as we were with our new beginning.
Having a place we can truly call home has brought us a deep sense of comfort and gratitude. Every day we are reminded how fortunate we are to be here, building memories together with each other and with our furry companions. For us, this home represents more than just a house—it represents a fresh start, a joyful lifestyle, and a place where both our family and our fur-babies can thrive.
Our Journey to The Villages
Life has a way of taking us down unexpected paths.
For many wonderful years, we called Spring Hill, Florida home. We lived in a beautiful 2,500-square-foot house and had plans for the future that included my mother moving in with us. We had prepared for that next chapter of our lives together.
Sadly, life had other plans.
Just before the COVID-19 pandemic began, my mother unexpectedly passed away before she ever had the chance to move in. It was a heartbreaking loss that changed our lives forever. I often find myself wishing she could have experienced everything that makes The Villages so special. She would have absolutely loved the beautiful neighborhoods, friendly people, endless activities, and wonderful sense of community. But I truly believe God had a different plan for her, and that gives us comfort.
After her passing, we realized it was time for a fresh start. We decided to downsize and begin a new chapter in The Villages.
Moving from a 2,500-square-foot home into a 1,500-square-foot home seemed like the right decision at the time. While we've absolutely fallen in love with life here, we've quickly discovered that we may have downsized just a little too much! We're currently searching for another home—of course, still within The Villages—to better fit our lifestyle.
One thing is certain...
Moving to The Villages has completely changed our lives—and the lives of our two fur babies—for the better.
There is truly something for everyone here. Whether it's exploring the many beautiful town squares, enjoying live entertainment, discovering new restaurants, taking scenic golf cart rides, or meeting wonderful new friends, there's never a shortage of things to do.
And when people say The Villages is huge, they're not kidding! Spanning three counties, it's almost like living in several small towns all connected into one incredible community. We're still discovering new places every week.
Some days we spend our time exploring neighborhoods and hidden gems. Other days we join clubs, attend events, or participate in one of the hundreds of activities available. We try to balance a little bit of everything, but by the end of the day, we're usually completely exhausted—in the best possible way!
We're excited about this next chapter and look forward to sharing our experiences, discoveries, favorite places, and, of course, updates on our search for our next home here in The Villages.
We'll be sure to keep you posted when we find it!
Thank you for following along on our journey. We hope our experiences help you discover just how special life in The Villages can be.

Finding Our Oasis
This is the very first home we purchased after moving to The Villages. While we absolutely love it, it's not a very large home—just a cozy 1,500-square-foot, 3-bedroom, 2-bath home with a 2-car garage, situated on a small lot.
At the time, it seemed like the perfect size after downsizing from our 2,500-square-foot home in Spring Hill.
Then something interesting happened...
Shortly after moving in, we attended one of the Village Community Development District (VCDD) meetings. During the meeting, someone mentioned something that completely caught us off guard.
"Most people in The Villages move an average of three times before they finally find their dream home."
We looked at each other and thought, "There's no way that's true!"
Surely people bought the home they wanted and stayed there... right?
Well... as time went on, we started hearing the exact same thing from our neighbors, new friends, fellow residents, and even real estate professionals. One by one, everyone seemed to tell us the same story.
"I've moved three times."
"This is my third house."
"We finally found our forever home."
It's not a Rumor
Before long, we realized they weren't exaggerating—we were actually watching it happen all around us!
After living here ourselves, we completely understand why.
The Villages is an incredible community with so many different neighborhoods, golf courses, town squares, lakes, recreation centers, and unique home styles that it's almost impossible to know exactly where you want to live until you've experienced it for yourself.
Every neighborhood has its own personality, charm, and lifestyle. As you explore more of The Villages, your idea of the "perfect home" often changes right along with you.
So now... we're beginning to understand what everyone meant.
It looks like we're well on our way to becoming part of the famous "move three times" club!
We're currently searching for our next home—still right here in The Villages, of course—and we'll be sharing every step of the journey with you.
Who knows... maybe the next one will finally be our forever home. 😊
True Friends for Ever!
Life has a funny way of bringing people together when you least expect it.
Back in 2023, while Robert and I were enjoying one of our many cruises, we met a wonderful couple who would eventually become some of the closest friends we've ever had.
Ironically, it wasn't until the very last evening of the cruise that we really started talking. As the ship sailed toward home, we struck up a conversation that lasted for hours. By the end of the night, it felt like we had known each other for years.
That wonderful couple was Joanne and Marteen.
At the time, they lived in the Tampa Bay area, while we were still living in Hernando County. Even though we lived more than an hour apart, distance never seemed to matter. Every month or two, they would make the trip to visit us. Sometimes they stayed overnight, and other times they spent the entire weekend.
Those weekends quickly became something we all looked forward to.
We laughed until our stomachs hurt, shared stories from our lives, cooked meals together, explored new places, and simply enjoyed each other's company. Before long, our friendship had grown into something much deeper.
People often say, "Friends are the family you choose." That's exactly how we feel about Joanne and Marteen. We lovingly refer to them as our brother and sister from another mother, and we truly mean it.
When we made the decision to move to The Villages, all four of us were a little heartbroken. We knew our regular get-togethers would become much harder with the extra distance between us. We accepted the fact that we'd probably be seeing each other far less often.
Or so we thought...
What happened next completely surprised us.
Without telling us a single word, these two wonderful sneaks secretly bought a home in The Villages.
Not just anywhere in The Villages...
About two and a half blocks from our house!
We were absolutely speechless.
One moment we thought we were saying goodbye to our monthly visits, and the next we found ourselves jumping up and down with excitement because our closest friends had become our neighbors!
To make the surprise even sweeter, Joanne had quietly been interviewing for a nursing position here in The Villages. They didn't want to tell us about their plans until they knew she had the job and everything was official. Once she was hired, they made the move—and surprised us in the best way imaginable.
Joanne has spent her career caring for others as a dedicated nurse, and Marteen has always been her biggest supporter. Together they've built a beautiful life and raised an incredible family. They are proud parents of five children, all of whom have gone into healthcare. Today, their children are doctors, nurses, or married to doctors or nurses—a true family dedicated to helping others.
Their love for family, hard work, and kindness are just a few of the reasons we cherish their friendship so much.
Now that we're all living here, we spend as much time together as we can. Of course, we enjoy many of the wonderful activities The Villages has to offer, but honestly, some of our favorite days don't involve any organized events at all.
Sometimes it's simply sharing dinner, taking a golf cart ride, sitting on the patio talking for hours, or laughing until our faces hurt.
Those simple moments are often the most meaningful.
As we continue our adventures in The Villages, you'll undoubtedly hear many more stories about Joanne and Marteen. They'll be joining us for new experiences, road trips, celebrations, and plenty of unforgettable memories.
We'll continue sharing our journey here on VillageLife.net—not only what's happening around The Villages, but also the special friendships and moments that make this community such an incredible place to call home.
Because at the end of the day, The Villages isn't just about beautiful homes, golf carts, or endless activities.
It's about the people you meet, the friendships you build, and the family you create along the way.
