Much of the infrastructure and community services within The Villages are managed by the Community Development Districts (CDD), which operate as special-purpose local governments responsible for services such as recreation facilities, utilities, infrastructure maintenance, sanitation, and community standards. These districts are overseen by elected boards and professional district management teams that help ensure the community continues to run smoothly and efficiently. ()

For public safety, residents are served by several county law-enforcement agencies depending on the location within The Villages, since the community spans Sumter, Lake, and Marion counties. The Sumter County Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement for much of the area, and residents can call the non-emergency line at 352-569-1600 or the Villages district office at 352-689-4600 for assistance. In the event of an emergency involving police, fire, or medical services, residents should always dial 911. 

Within the community itself, Community Watch plays an important role in maintaining safety and security. While Community Watch is not a law enforcement agency, it works closely with local police and sheriff’s departments to help monitor neighborhoods, provide gate and patrol services, and assist residents with safety concerns.
